Cardiovascular Care-Services

Westlake Medical Center offers invasive as well as non-invasive cardiology services, including stress tests, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and peripheral vascular studies.

Diagnostic Cardiac Screening Program

The goal of cardiac CT for calcium scoring is to determine if Coronary Arterial Disease (CAD) is present and to what extent, even if there are no symptoms. It is a screening study that may be recommended by a physician for patients with risk factors for CAD but no clinical symptoms. The screening is fast, painless and non-invasive.

The major risk factors for CAD are:

  • Abnormal cholesterol levels
  • Family history of heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Overweight
  • Physical inactivity

The cost of the test is $250 and is typically not covered by insurance. Payment of cash or check will be accepted at time of registration.

Cardiac Cath lab

Diagnostic Procedures

Cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures for adult patients are performed in two cardiac catheterization suites.

In cardiac catheterization, the doctor utilizes a contrast dye and X-ray technology to help identify blockages and other problems with the heart and/or arteries.
EP (electrophysiology) is utilized for simple ablation studies.

An angiogram is used to examine blood flow within an artery or vein. General angiograms can be used to evaluate the arteries or veins in the arms, legs, chest, or abdomen. Special angiogram tests can look at the arteries near the heart or in the arms and legs. While using X-ray, motion pictures are made as the dye travels through the vessels.

Intravascular Ultrasound

Intravascular ultrasound is a diagnostic tool that uses an ultrasound to give a cross-sectional view from the inside out to determine if there is any plaque in the arteries of the heart.
